Mustang Horses at Mitchell Plain Farm
Nevada: 17-year old bay gelding. 14.2 hands, 900 lb. Captured as a 6-month old weanling outside Twin Peaks HMA, northwest Nevada.
Originally adopted at BLM adoption event as a yearling but subsequently returned in poor body condition to the Ewing, IL facility after 1 year. Adopted and brought to our farm on August 3, 2007. Well behaved, saddle trained (green), 3 months Natural Horsemanship Training.
Mesteño: 16-year-old black gelding. 15 hands, 1100 lb. Born in captivity on March 23, 2007 at the BLM Facility in Cañon City, Colorado. Mare was captured in southern Wyoming near the Wyoming-Colorado border (Salt Wells HMA). Adopted as a weanling on March 3, 2008 from Ewing. Well behaved, saddle trained (green), 2 months Natural Horsemanship Training, 4 months finishing.
Comet: 18-year-old brownish-black gelding. 14.2 hands, 1000 lb. Abandoned near Central Barren, Indiana on October 26, 2008. Adopted on November 3, 2008 from New Beginnings Animal Refuge near Crandall, Indiana (no longer in business). Originally captured as a yearling in Antelope Valley on the Nevada-Utah border near Ely.
Montello: 18-year-old bay mare. 13.2 hands, 850 lbs. Abandoned near Central Barren, Indiana on October 26, 2008; adopted on December 3, 2008 from New Beginnings. Originally captured as a short yearling in Antelope Valley. Excellent temperament, halter trained. Montello and Comet originally adopted together as yearlings at BLM adoption event in Indiana in 2001. Early gestation at adoption; gave birth to filly on September 9, 2009. Deceased.
